Music
I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of several great musical acts throughout my life.
Big Shot Lounge
Named ironically after the laughably small bedroom we used to record music in, this project started with the release of an ambient EP entitled H2001: SPACE WATER and culminated on April 1st, 2021 when we unveiled Roundwound Rotosound to the world. The album took years of fine-tuning to complete and is full of catchy earworms in multiple genres, from the abrasive punk rock-inspired opener “Boneless Freaks” to the country-tinged doo-wop pastiche “Rodeo Romeo”. Don’t just take my word for it though— check out this write-up we got in OffBeat Magazine.
Soundass
What started as a goofy novelty act that poorly covered popular songs on Bandcamp ended up blossoming into a full-fledged musical collective that’s quickly approaching their 100th release. Now whether or not any of these albums are any good is a completely different story, but the energy and irreverence of Soundass’s material more than makes up for their perceived lack of “talent” or “skills”. As the years have gone on, our output has gotten considerably more listenable and has shifted its focus from slapdash covers to wholly original material. Over the years we also put out multiple filmed specials and became infamous for our raucous live shows.
It may seem daunting to make an initial selection when browsing extensive Soundass discography, so let me recommend a couple of our more “accessible” releases:
Our recent EP Jack Packer and the Bay Street Steppers is our most concise work yet- blending the sounds of jazz, funk and rock into a tight six-song project.
Comedy Isn’t Funny: The Conventional Masterworks, Vol. 1 is a compilation designed as a primer for the uninitiated and features a large selection of fan-favorite tracks.
Surfass is a loving tribute and pastiche of the surf rock genre. Just good vibes all around!
The Abita Stumps
For many years I also had the great fortune to sit in as “the fifth Stump” on bass as part of The Abita Stumps, covering classic country and rock & roll hits at countless live events across Louisiana. Their debut album of original material You Know Why I’m Here is now available for purchase.
How to Draw Birds
Four young men united by the inimitable desire to illustrate those of an ornithological nature. We haunted bars and venues across Hollywood before disappearing into the night like the slippery specters we are. Our self-titled debut album is available on all major streaming services.
